What The Omega Letter Means To Me
''Its a community where passion has not died. . .''
Tuesday, October 25, 2011
Kay Copus

I live in a city that is pretty “cold” in the Spirit.  It’s not a big city, but encompasses a metropolitan area of about 100,000 smack dab in middle America.  Eighty percent of our population is unchurched.

Our city like most cities today is terribly broken. Our families are broken, our children abandoned, and our inhabitants try desperately to fill the empty and fearful places with fleeting doctrines and false gods and substances or things that simply cannot satisfy.

I didn’t grow up in a church. Jesus met me at my point of need on a bedroom floor where I wept before Him some thirty plus years ago.  His faithfulness over me has been amazing.  The longer I walk with Him the hungrier I am for Him, and the bigger the burden I have for those who don’t know Him.

I go to a good church with a good pastor, who I’m convinced loves Jesus and bears a burden for my city.  Yet in my church, even as we focus on reaching the lost and participate in many good works, we don’t preach sin any more, we don’t talk about the precious cost of the blood Christ shed for our sin, and we are very complacent and quiet about the signs of the Lord’s return.

I grieve for a Church that is sleeping.  I don’t understand the Western Church or why the scales on her eyes seem so terribly thick.  What happened to her passion and her fire for Christ?  Why is it that she appears to look at God to serve her rather than consider how she might serve God?  When did the doubt about the truth and soundness of the Word of God sneak into her meeting places? How dare some of her inhabitants be so bold or arrogant to think that man is wise enough to turn her eternal truth into a new gospel for today? Why do so few in her midst recognize what time it is? Yet, we know the answers because each is written within the complete context of God’s Word in its fullness.

Even though I feel totally inadequate as a teacher or an evangelist, I take seriously Paul’s charge to Timothy in chapter 4:3-5:

“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.”

God is so good to faithfully incline my eyes to see, my ears to hear, to feed me and position me so that I might glean from others who are faithful and bold in their defense and commitment to the Word, and with whom I might grow as iron sharpens iron to worthy purpose.

I’m a new Omega Letter subscriber.  Another strong woman of God whom I respect and admire so much as a valiant contender for the faith, Jan Markell, referred me to a column Jack had written upon his return from Israel.  He tackled a tough discernment issue in regard to Glenn Beck, Mormon influences, Christian alliances, and the visibility of Israel coming into the prime time spotlight in a way that took me right back to the Bible.  He also humbly told his readers,” I missed it, I didn’t look deeply enough because I didn’t want to”, and I related to that.  Even more importantly, he came back to address his failure as the Lord gave him insight.  That inspired me in my own failures, knowing that while I occasionally "blow" it, God will also give me opportunity to make it right.

Since subscribing, I have been perusing the web site.  I like what I see.  It’s good solid stuff!  It's meaty!  It makes me think.  I like the contributions from Jack’s readers as well.  It’s a community where passion has not died.  It’s filled with fresh manna to share with family, neighbors, co-workers, small group members and Bible study friends.

What the Omega Letter provides me is an another opportunity to praise God. . . for a fresh new well and the ever present confirmation that throughout history and today . . . God has always nurtured and equipped a faithful remnant who will not be silent but contend for the faith!

Thanks, Jack! I appreciate your no-nonsense, take it back to Bible, bold approach! I look forward to gleaning much more in the days ahead!!
